Three Big Hearts Trustees step down after completing the maximum term of services on the Big Hearts Board.
Mariel D’Arcy (nee Kaney), John Hume and Pamela Scott played a significant role in supporting the charity’s work notably through the Covid-19 pandemic, and in developing robust governance that has put Big Hearts in a better position to change lives through football.
Mariel D’Arcy (nee Kaney), a solicitor and former Captain of the Hearts Women, said: “I feel it was only yesterday when I joined the Big Hearts Board. Although I am sad to see my time as a Trustee end, I feel energised by what Big Hearts represents for the Hearts fans base and the local community around Tynecastle Park.”
Chartered Accountant John Hume served on the Big Hearts Board for six years. Commenting on his departure as Trustee, John said: “Being a Trustee at such an amazing charity has been a real privilege. It has been very humbling to see at first hand all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to deliver such a great programme of services. The dedicated staff team at Big Hearts are at the top of their game. Having recruited not one but five new trustees, Big Hearts is in great shape for the next round. I look forward to watching from the stands and seeing what the new BH Team can achieve.”
Former Diageo Director Pamela Scott, who stepped down as Chair earlier this year commented: “What impressed me the most during my three years as Chair and overall eight years on the Board is how close and supportive the Board and the Staff team are for each other. I would recommend any leaders to become a Big Hearts Trustee.”
Big Hearts would like to share their heartfelt thanks to our departing Trustees, and extend their gratitude to former Trustee Andrew McKinlay.
Andrew McKinlay is stepping down from the Big Hearts Board after leaving his role as Chief Executive of Heart of Midlothian FC in August. During his 5 years as a Big Hearts Trustee, Andrew strengthened the relationship between the Club and the charity, and our shared vision on the role of the Club badge in uplifting communities.
David Gray, Chair of Big Hearts said: “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Mariel, John, Pamela and Andrew for their time and expertise over many years of dedicated service. Their dedication to Big Hearts led to strengthened governance and a period of sustainable growth within a complex landscape for charities. They should feel very proud of what they’ve accomplished, and I wish them every success in the future.”
