Help to build confidence, skills, and new pathways
Switching Play is an initiative for young people who are feeling isolated, not fully engaging in school and have an interest in football and physical activities.
The 8-week programme is aimed at those who are looking for a fresh start to build a better path going forward.
Delivered by expert partners, programme topics include:
- Drugs, Vaping and Alcohol Awareness
- Gambling Awareness
- Racism
- Fire Safety
- Mental health
Participants will have the opportunity to volunteer in their local communities.
The programme is suitable for young people who:
- are yet to identify their next positive step
- are interested in football and making a difference in their local community
Project times and info:
- Course runs one day per week, during class time
- The Shed, Tynecastle Park - the home of Heart of Midlothian FC
- Young people aged 13-16

The outcomes we aim to achieve:
- Confidence – increase maturity, self worth and sense of identity.
- Relationships – show positive impacts on relationship building between other young people, staff, Police and external tutors. Recreating connections with school for pupils disengaging.
- Health and Wellbeing – promote physical activity, including playing sport and outdoor walks. Receiving reliable information from SAMH and alcohol/drag awareness talks.
- Life Skills – develop a variety of skills from Scottish Fire and Rescue and Police Scotland.
- Learning and Encouraging Aspiration and Ambition – opportunities to volunteer and do something positive within the community.
