Shining a Spotlight: Big Hearts Neuro Stars

In 2024, Big Hearts, the charity of Heart of Midlothian FC, introduced a weekly support group ‘Neuro Stars’ for neurodiverse young people and their families, who have or are in the process of receiving a neurodivergent diagnosis – including ADHD and autism. During the school term, Neuro Stars supports 5-16 year old’s and their parents and carers, offering a supportive and inclusive environment where they can connect, learn, and thrive. Working in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council’s Lifelong Learning Parent Carer support, the groups aims to:
  • help young people grow in confidence and build new friendships whilst trying new activities.
  • provide specialist support to parents and carers, to help them feel less isolated and more confident in their role.
Neuro Stars parent said: “We come along to Neuro Stars because it is a one of a kind group, providing much needed support socially, mentally and emotionally. It’s a safe space to chat with other like minded adults, sharing hints and tips and helping empower us by providing information to navigate the world of ASN and giving us much needed respite.” We are delighted to have the support of Theorise Limited, who will sponsor the project throughout the 2024/25 football season and on 15th September, 62 incredible Big Hearts Supporters signed up to complete the Edinburgh Kiltwalk – raising over £10,000 to support the group. Kiltwalk participant said: “As a family, we loved being part of #TeamBigHearts at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk, raising lots of funds. Our granddaughter recently received a diagnosis of autism, ADHD and anxiety, and it means something to us to raise money for Neuro Stars – as this is so close to home for us and we understand the impact it has on families.” For more information on Big Hearts’ Neuro Stars and referral details, click here.   – September 2024
