From Gorgie to Glencoe: Outdoor Adventure Trip for Teenage Group

Our charity hosted its very first youth experience in the Highlands, with eleven young people enjoying five days of outdoor activities.

The summer 2026 at Big Hearts will be marked by a new milestone: offering young people a chance to spend a few days away from home during the school holidays, in the stunning surroundings of Glencoe, with thanks to Hebridean Pursuits Outdoor Learning.

Our July adventure trip welcomed a group of eleven teenagers involved in local projects including Big Hearts’ Kinship Care, School’s Out! And That’s Me! groups.

During their overnight stay at the Heart of Glencoe Bunkhouse, the young people aged 12 to 16 enjoyed a range of outdoor activities: gorge walking, rock climbing, coasteering, mountain walking – and a visit to the location of ‘Hagrid’s Hut’ near Clachaig Gully, as famously featured in the Harry Potter movies.

Following a pilot residential trip in 2025, this new summer holidays experience was designed by the Big Hearts’ Staff Team to enable teenagers to spend consecutive days outdoors, in a supportive environment, where they can build confidence, develop teamwork skills and make new memories.

“During this trip, I have achieved things I thought I wasn’t able to do.”

“I’ll probably remember this trip for the rest of my life”
