EMF 2018 – Running 480 kms in aid of Kinship Care families

During the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on 26/27 May, the Big Hearts Running Team will complete a total of 480 Kms – the distance from Edinburgh to Dublin – to improve the lives of the most vulnerable Kinship Care families living in Edinburgh.

30 Big Hearts Supporters from a wide range of backgrounds – including Volunteers, Staff Members and Hearts Fans from all over the UK – will take part in the different races under the Club and Charity badges in a bid to raise over £7,000 to back Big Hearts’ Emergency Essentials Fund.

The Fund, created last year, helps Kinship Carers who struggle to purchase essential household items such as washing machines, fridges or children’s beds.

To date 66 families, including 112 children, benefited from £29,000 in crisis grants delivered by Buttle UK. Young people and their carers have expressed the positive impact on their family life – reducing stress or conflicts and offering a comfortable and healthy environment to live in together.

With local needs higher than anticipated, the 30 Big Hearts Runners are pushing their fundraising efforts to hit their target of £7,000 by the end of Sunday – ensuring Big Hearts can meet the increasing demand.
