The charity of Heart of Midlothian FC opens a new chapter in its continued efforts to improve outcomes of local people at risk of loneliness.
We all have incredible stories to tell: from our first childhood memory to summer holidays highlights and out-of this-world tales from elderly relatives.
Whether they are funny, heartwarming or surprising, stories are part of our sport and cultural heritage. The events and people depicted in past memories represent a real force to connect groups from different generations and backgrounds.
Big Hearts is encouraging supporters to get involved in the creation of a library of written pieces of memorabilia and archived photos retracing the social history of the unique Gorgie and Hearts community and the overall life in Scotland throughout the 20th century.
Anyone can get involved, either by sending their own anecdotes or engaging in conversations with family and neighbours around a specific topic.
This new Cultural and Sport Heritage Project aims to add another strand to Big Hearts’ ever growing reminiscence programme.
The memories will be used as a basis to trigger recollections for people living with dementia and to build social connections between isolated people of all ages. Some of the stories will be published in the Big Hearts’ Gazette, a printed newsletter distributed twice a month to 200 older people across Edinburgh & the Lothians.
