Mental Health Awareness Week: Wellbeing Together

This Mental Health Awareness Week, Big Hearts, the official charity of Heart of Midlothian FC, would like to raise awareness of our Wellbeing Together South-West partnership.

Wellbeing Together South-West is a community partnership which was formed to strengthen mental health services and wellbeing services for children, young people and their families.

Our charity teamed up with 3 partner organisations: the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), With Kids and the Space at the Broomhouse Hub to provide essential services that improve the mental health and wellbeing of local 5-24 years old, including young people who are care experienced aged up to 26.

Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government, our aim is to provide support at the earliest opportunity and to prevent mental health challenges developing for children and young people and reduce the need for them to require intensive mental health services.

Since joining Big Hearts in March 2023, Heather Brown, Young People’s Support Officer has spent time getting to know some of our young people. By listening to them, she is helping to build their confidence whilst letting them know that Big Hearts are here to support and listen.

Heather Brown, Big Hearts’ Young People’s Support Officer said:
“Mental health awareness is not about speaking in, it’s about speaking out! It’s not about being fearful of how you are feeling, it’s about the strength you have to speak out.

It’s important to improve your sleep pattern and self-care, and also to have a happy and healthy relationship with your own self.

Sleep is important to allow our body’s need to heal and everyone needs to rest their mind, not just their body.

Speak out, not in and always know that people are here to listen!”
